Rollover near El Indio
The Maverick County Sheriff Department reported a rollover accident on March 3, 2018 near El Indio, Texas.
Maverick County Sheriff Tom Schmerber reported that his deputies responded to an emergency call at approximately 4 a.m. on Saturday.

Deputies recover stolen firearms

The Maverick County Sheriff’s Department has found six firearms and more than $1,000 stolen from a home in El Indio after an investigation that lasted a few weeks.
24 transferred to ER after chemical spill
The chemical spill that occurred at the El Indio UMC location on Friday, January 27 resulted in 24 people being sent to the Fort Duncan Regional Medical Center ER.
Patients exposed to chemical spill at UMC
At approximately 12:45 p.m. Friday, a chemical spill of an unknown amount occurred at the El Indio United Medical Center location causing multiple patients to have to be transported to the Fort Duncan Regional Medical Center Emergency Room.
Ambulances were also observed coming in and out of the UMC Veterans Boulevard location transferring patients to the ER.
By 2 p.m. all UMC locations were closed early.
According to unofficial information the spill occurred at the El Indio location and several patients were transferred to the Veteran’s location for further treatment.
Several emergency calls were then placed and multiple ambulances were at the Veterans location. Both patients and personnel were transferred for further medical evaluations at the emergency room.
No official statement has been given regarding the incident by UMC administration.

Car accident claims one near El Indio
Friday, July 29, at approximately 2:00 a.m., Maverick County Sheriff’s Deputies received a call in reference to a reckless driver on FM 221 near Rosita Valley.
“Our deputies went out there searching for the vehicle and approximately several minutes later we received another call in reference to an accident at Cinco Ranch near El Indio, Texas,” said Maverick County Chief Sheriff’s Deputy Robert De Leon.
Upon arrival, deputies found the vehicle involved in the accident, which matched the vehicle description about the reckless driver, empty.
“When they got there they looked at the vehicle and nobody was there,” said De Leon. “Several feet away from the vehicle was a male subject on the ground deceased.”
De Leon said the case is now under investigation by the Department of Public Safety, and that the subject’s name could not yet be released.
Another body was found on Cinco Ranch at approximately 10:00 am Thursday. The body of a male subject, possibly undocumented said De Leon, was discovered in the river by a ranch worker.
The body has not yet been identified.
Muere hombre en accidente cerca de El Indio

El viernes, 29 de julio alrededor de las 2:00 a.m. Diputados del Sheriff recibieron una llamada en referencia a un conductor imprudente en la carretera FM 221 cerca de Rosita Valley.
“Los diputados investigaron esta área para buscar el vehículo y aproximadamente varios minutos más tarde recibieron otra llamada en referencia a un accidente en Cinco Ranch, cerca de El Indio, Texas", dijo el Jefe de Diputados Robert De León.
A su llegada, los oficiales encontraron el vehículo implicado en el accidente, que coincidía con la descripción del vehículo por el conductor imprudente.
"Cuando llegaron y buscaron en el vehículo no había nadie allí", dijo De León. "Varios pies de distancia del vehículo estaba un sujeto masculino en el suelo muerto."
De León dijo que el caso está ahora bajo investigación por el Departamento de Seguridad Pública, y que el nombre del sujeto aún no podría dar a conocer.
En otro incidente, un cuerpo fue encontrado en el Cinco Ranch aproximadamente a las 10:00 am del jueves.
El cuerpo de un sujeto masculino, posiblemente indocumentado, dijo De León, fue descubierto en el río por un trabajador de rancho.
El cuerpo aún no ha sido identificado.
